1. Why the Italians decided to Come to america

In 1910, there were 340,765 Italian immigrants in New York City, the largest Italian population outside Italy and much larger than such famous Italian cities as Florence and Venice.Between 1899 and 1924, 3.8 million Italians arrived, while 2.1 million had returned to Italy during that same period. The rate for the return of Italians were very high. According to the 2000 U.S. census and the 2001 Canadian census, 15,723,555 Americans and 1,270,370 Canadians claimed Italian descent.


2. Population of Amercia after Italian Immigrants came into Amercia

In 1880 merely four years after the influx of Italian immigrants the population skyrocketed to 44,000, and by 1900, 484,027. Italians only made up 1.5% of the U.S.population at its peak. The Italians came to the US by boat and went to Ellis Island to become US citizens. They mainly settled in New York city once they came to live in the US.
3. The hardships for the Italians after they came into America

Some of the hardships were having to work in unfaverable conditions like mining. Most Italians were uneducatited and did not speak english. Italians were called WOPS as a discriminatory name meaning without papers because many of them had no birth certificates.

4. The culture impact on the US once the Italians came to America
Ninety percent of the population is Roman Catholic. The other 2 percent is mainly comprised of Jews, along with some Muslims and Orthodox and Eastern Rite Catholics.
Italy is filled with over 2000 years' worth of holy places. Rome and the Vatican City alone have thousands of shrines, relics, and churches.
Italians generally believe in a life after death in which the good are rewarded and the evil punished. The Italians are strong supporters of art and have a huge artistic history.
Italian literature has its roots in Roman and Greek literature.
Italian music is another great glory of Italy. They created the Gregorian chant, the troubadour song, and the madrigal.
Their impact on the U.S. culture is that the U.S. adopted a bunch of stuff that Italy brought over here. They adopted some of their art, music, and religion.
