Norwegans
  • Most people couldn't go out because money was so tight.
  • Greenland was not great for farming, so other lands were sought
  • most people come from scandinavia due to religouis prosescution
  • many also came due to poor crops and t escape the law.
  • many came to the states beause there was alot of cheap land.
  • blonde hair and blue eys was a comman trait also many poeple had a rather large built
  • most got on boats to england then to the states.
  • many were too poopr to even buy a room to rent on a ship and had to sleep on the deck in the elements
  • many scandinavians moved up to wisconsin, Michigan, Minnisota.
  • the only full wisconsin regiment to fight in the civil war was made of scandinavian voleenters
  • scandinavians brout alot of traditions to the states such as the berckbiner- a huge ski race held in wisconsin

  • They died on the ships because of disease. There are a lot of thieves and con-artists and there were sold counterfeit ticks or charge high rates. They had to make all the stuff last on the ships

Swedish
  • Most Swedish immigrants ended up in the Midwest, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. This happened in the years 1820-1920. There were about 1,000,000 Swedish immigrants coming from Scandinavia.
Arrival
  • By the time many of them reached their destination, they would be out of money and would have to find a decent job usually getting paid about a dollar a day, still have to buy food for themselves or maybe a family.

  • Swedish immigrants who made an important impact on America include John Ericsson, Birger Sandzen, Carl Eric Wickman, Greta Garbo, Ingrid Bergman, Swan Turnblad, Olof Krans and Nils Johansson.
